Personal Statement

As a Professor of Finance with a specialization in development finance and financial markets, my academic journey has been driven by a deep commitment to understanding how financial systems can serve as catalysts for economic growth and sustainable development, particularly in emerging and developing economies. Over the years, my teaching, research, and policy engagement have revolved around a core question: How can financial innovation, regulation, and market access be aligned to support inclusive and sustainable development?

My academic foundation in finance and economics, coupled with over two decades of professional and research experience, has provided me with a broad and nuanced perspective on global financial systems. I have worked extensively on issues relating to access to finance for underserved populations, financial innovation, capital market development, private sector development, and the role of financial institutions in facilitating structural transformation. My research has been published in leading journals and presented at international conferences, influencing both scholarly debate and policy discourse.

Beyond research, I take great pride in mentoring the next generation of finance professionals and scholars. I have taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervised doctoral research, and contributed to curriculum development in finance and development economics. I view education not only as a platform for knowledge transmission but also as a tool for empowerment and social impact. Beyond academia, I have actively contributed to discussions on financial sector development through advisory roles, conference presentations, and scholarly publications. My work has been instrumental in fostering dialogues that bridge the gap between academic research and practical financial implementation, ensuring that financial markets remain inclusive, efficient, and responsive to global economic challenges. These experiences continue to inform my teaching and research, ensuring that they remain relevant, applied, and impactful.

Looking ahead, I am committed to advancing scholarship in development finance and financial markets through interdisciplinary research, cross-sector collaboration, and innovative pedagogy. I believe that finance, when thoughtfully deployed, can be a powerful force for equitable development, and I remain passionate about contributing to that vision through academic excellence and public service.
